Alexander of Aegae : ウィキペディア英語版 | Alexander of Aegae Alexander (Greek: ) of Aegae was a Peripatetic philosopher who flourished in Rome in the 1st century, and was a disciple of the celebrated mathematician Sosigenes of Alexandria. He was tutor to the emperor Nero.〔Suda, 〕〔The quote attributed to Alexander in the Suda entry is found in Suetonius (''Tiberius'' 57), where it is attributed to Theodorus of Gadara.〕 He wrote commentaries on the ''Categories''〔Simplicius, ''In Cat.'' 10.20, 13.16〕 and the ''De Caelo''〔Simplicius, ''In De Caelo'', 430.29-32〕 of Aristotle.〔cf. 〕 Attempts in the 19th century to ascribe some of the works of Alexander of Aphrodisias to Alexander of Aegae have been shown to be mistaken.〔Victor Carlisle Barr Coutant, (1936), ''Alexander of Aphrodisias: Commentary on Book IV of Aristotle's Meteorologica'', page 21.
